Renowned British actor Sir Patrick Stewart is partnering with the DeLorean Motor Company to launch a blockchain-powered automotive marketplace.
The new DeLorean Marketplace, built on the Sui network, aims to modernize the process of reserving, managing, and reselling luxury vehicles.
From the DMC-12 to the Alpha 5 EV – and Everything In Between
DeLorean became world-famous in the 1980s when its DMC-12 model became the iconic time machine in the movie “Back to the Future”. Since then, the company hasn’t produced a new vehicle in over 40 years.
That’s now changing with the debut of the new Alpha 5 EV, which brings the legendary “gull-wing doors” into the 21st century.
Reservation slots (build slots) for the highly anticipated car will be tokenized, meaning they can be traded among users.
“A New Frontier Awaits…” – DeLorean, NFTs, and Blockchain Innovation
Patrick Stewart released a stylish 60-second video on social media, declaring: “A new frontier awaits…”
In the video, the Star Trek legend says:
We stand on the edge of an evolution in automotive science, where innovation meets icon.
DeLorean’s Chief Brand Officer Cameron Wynne commented that embracing blockchain is a natural step for the brand, which is associated with “vision, rebellion, and futuristic innovation.”
In a press release shared with Decrypt, he added:
Our new on-chain reservation platform affirms our commitment to transparency and security, offering direct access to the future of vehicle ownership.
The blockchain will also be used to create a transparent, immutable registry for every new DeLorean, making it easier to access authentic history and vehicle condition data in future resales.
A native $DMC token is also expected to launch, enabling staking and rewards for holders.
DeLorean Labs and the Future of On-Chain Solutions
The new marketplace is an initiative of DeLorean Labs—a dedicated Web3 division of the company with ambitions to expand this model into other industries that can benefit from blockchain-based solutions.
Build slots can be reserved at: marketplace.delorean.com in the form of NFTs, with payment in USDC—one of the most well-known stablecoins issued by Circle and pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar.
Each reservation costs $2,500, which will count as a credit toward the final price of the Alpha 5 EV upon production and delivery. According to the company, this represents “a ticket to owning a piece of DeLorean’s future.”
Lower-numbered build slots will have higher delivery priority, which means they could gain value in secondary trading.
Once production begins, NFT holders will be able to customize their vehicle—from paint color to drivetrain configuration.
DeLorean emphasizes that intelligent design and handcrafted quality will be at the heart of each vehicle, with production scheduled to begin at a later stage.
